Campanas Presentation

Eco- Consciousness:

"Due to our increasing concern with global warming, and environmental issues we do our best to preserve the planet we live in. It is not possible to use only recycled materials in every piece, but we try to keep conscious about the ones we choose”

Favela Chair:

Designed in 1991, it started being produced by Edra only in 2003. Being a hand made chair results on each chair is
different from the other.

By accumulating pieces o
f wood, the chair recreates the spontaneous formations of the shantytowns. Off cuts of certified wood reclaimed from Habitart’s carpentry are assembled and glued together by hand.

In 2006 Edra launched, at the Salone del Mobile, new version proper for the outdoor use made of teak wood.

TransNeomatic Container Bowl:

TransNeomatic is a container bowl made of used (rescued from life-in-a-landfill) scooter tire and natural wicker. Before weaving begins the tire goes through a steam cleaning process removing all dir
t and particles coated with a water-based non-toxic eco-friendly solution to seal and protect the tire from everyday usage.

Artecnica chose to produce TransNeomatic in Vietnam due to the country’s enormous amount of disposed tires from the populace’s ubiquitous scooters and the highly evolved culture of handcraft skills. Monsoon cycles, crop seasons, tire size: all played into the design production process, as did the local attitudes towards handcraft. Artecnica stressed the value of this work, challenging the skilled artisans from a countryside village in Vietnam to apply and refine their traditional handcraft using the new exacting standard this design requires.

Green Buildings do not need to sacrifice modernity nor luxury to be sustainable:

Green buildings are similar to conventional buildings in many aspects, but they operate and are maintained in a sustainable way.

Within the five pillars of performance: Outdoor, Indoor, Water, Energy and Materials, the adoption of an eco-friendly approach in a number of different projects represented considerable savings, increase in real state value, as well as other motiv
ational effects on the users.

Outdoor:
Renovation and
retrofitting of pre-existing buildings and its surroundings, as well as solutions to lower the carbon emission rates

Indoor:
Air quality control
of indoor environments, ventilation, thermal control and biodegradable cleaning products

Water:
Reduce t
he need for drinkable water supply as well as the impact in the local watershed

Energy:
Increase energy efficiency, the use of alternative sources of energy and lower carbon emmisions

Materials:
Reduce the amount of new material in the production process. Employ materials with less impa
ct in the environment and manage more efficiently the production of waste

Eco-paradigm: Green is elevated to Luxury

Eco-consumerism is a growing trend among individuals of higher economic classes. Associate
d with notions of well being, rejuvenation, luxury and hedonism, it's become an aspirational product that appeals to a market segment that's design savvy, with an keen eye for aesthetics.

In face of this fact, the current industrial design and architecture production destined to fill this consumption gap have been assuming a more refined look, luxurious without exaggeration.

Products endowed with a holistic approach to concept and execution that becomes evident in the choices for materials, light effects, shapes, colors and usability and goes far beyond the traditional perception of rusticity and earthen tones that surrounds the subject.

Prologue: Ou
r objective

Greece is perceived a country of history and tradition by the foreigners. A Country with a great influence in many civilisations. That’s the archetype hold by the Greek, and it’s their most important value. Our main objective is how can we translate all that memory in a contemporary way, so both Greeks and foreigners would feel the legacy of this history.

Knowing the area; Transfering the history; What we have to tell.

The Hotel

The Olympic Palace Hotel (16, Filellinon Street) has a privileged location in Athens Center, situated just across from Syntagma Square, the Greek Parliament and the National Gardens, within a walking distance from the Acropolis, the lovely city of Plaka, and the city`s commercial, retail, business and cultural center.

It is also located near many of Athens' oldest and most famous neighborhoods and tourist attractions. The neighborhoods of Plaka, Monastiraki, Psirri and Kolonaki are all within walking distance, and most of the famous sites of ancient Athens are nearby, including the Acropolis, the Theater of Dionysus, the Areopagus, the Ancient Agora of Athens with Hadrian's Library, the Tower of the Winds in the Roman Agora, the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, the Arch of Hadrian, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Pnyx, the Philopappos Monument on the Hill of the Nymphs, the Kerameikos Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Lycabettus Hill. Historic churches also dot the area, some dating from the Middle Ages.

The concept: Temporal Collages

The memory is fragmented. Every memory we have is discontinuous. We hold images from some important moment around the age of five, then another around the age of eight. Long periods in our lives are not remembered at all.

We can only remember moments that hold strong enough emotions. Memory imprints are usually associated with powerful emotional content.

Memories are usually connected to objects and places. Our hotel is a place meant to value these memories.

We have characterized our Hotel as more than a simple space. We’ve strategically conceived it as an emotional place, not only rescuing a history that was fragmented by time but also stimulates the creation of new histories.

The Memory Hotel:

Brazil is the result of many cultures, traditions and histories overlayed. This project starts with Greece’s history, through their eyes and readings of memories...

Fernando and Humberto’s work incorporates the idea of transformation and reinvention: revealing the grandeur in the ordinary. Common or everyday materials carry not only the creativity in design, but also signs of fragmentation, a reflex of the great influence memories hold in their work.

Swirled memories

Entangled memories

Fragmented
memories...

It is a celebration of the past and an anticipation of the future through the different readings and manifestations of the memory.
